Students Demolish College in Mackworth

East Midlands Demolition and the students of Derby College will be holding a raffle to give one lucky student the chance to start the demolition of the Design Centre building. The project will be carried out with East Midlands Demolition's customary care and attention, and as much of the demolished material as possible will be recycled for future building work.

The final stage of the project sees the Design Centre building coming down. The Design Centre was commissioned in 1998 and completed ahead of schedule in 2000, in time to see students populating it for the first time in the autumn term. The building linked the existing B and C block areas of the Mackworth campus with a multi storey glass fronting and its instantly recognisable curving roof and ‘smiling’ entrance canopy.

Clipstone Colliery Project Still Helping the Environment

East Midlands Demolition's award winning Clipstone Colliery project continues to pay dividends for the local environment. The site is still accepting ex coal inert waste, which would otherwise have been destined for landfill areas in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The original Clipstone Colliery demolition project salvaged an astonishing 96% of all materials turned up during work. As well as conducting a safe and environmentally conscious demolition of a huge site, which presented asbestos and slurry as well as the normal structural materials (copper; concrete; steel; iron), East Midlands Demolition then prepared the ground for future use, using infilling and levelling techniques to restore the Colliery site to its original tillable field condition.

Ratcliffe on Soar

East Midlands Demolition has added another huge client to its books: e.on UK, whose Ratcliffe on Soar power station needed a small store building taking down. The successfully completed project has shown that a locally run business is more than capable of holding its own with the big guns. Such a high profile project will inevitably lead to increased orders for EMD's increasingly recognised brand of responsible demolition.

e.on manages the Ratcliffe on Soar Power Plant with a close eye on its environmental impact, and has introduced a series of initiatives to offset any potential effect that the coal fired power plant might have and it's little wonder that East Midlands Demolition was chosen to take down the storage building. EMD has long made a practice of incorporating large scale recycling into its work and has spearheaded its own expansion project with the purchase of £500,000 worth of environmentally friendly equipment.

Building Schools for the Future

East Midlands Demolition is playing a major role in the Derbyshire arm of the Government's Building Schools for the Future project. The company is fulfilling sustainable demolition contracts at the Heritage School in Clowne; the Springwell Community School in Staveley; and the Bolsover School. East Midlands Demolition will provide a stable platform for these vital institutions to breathe new life into their local areas.

East Midlands Demolition works under the motto ‘Clearing the Way for the Future’. The Building Schools for the Future projects are perfectly keyed to the sentiment, with each school set to receive purpose built blocks and classrooms tailored to its educational specialties. Every school in the project is also to be given an expanded ICT learning presence, with a Virtual Learning Environment backing up the ‘real world’ lessons given in the new classrooms.

New Offices and Depot for East Midlands Demolition

Foundation work has started on East Midlands Demolition's new offices and depot. With purpose built garages, plant storage facilities and offices being constructed just a stone's throw from the current offices of the company, the staff will get to see their new home rise from the ground while they continue to provide the East Midlands' premier services for taking other properties down!

The new offices will be completed in nine months' time, and are designed to house all staff and machinery, with space for a 10 year expansion. The website will be updated with further news from the project as it develops.

Investment Pays Off for East Midlands Demolition

East Midlands Demolition has cemented its position as a leading light in safe, clean and environmentally friendly demolition with the acquisition of a wide range of new plant material. The company has spent half a million pounds on new Volvo excavators; new dust sweepers; and super efficient plant attachments — an investment that has already netted a return of three million pounds' worth of new demolition contracts.

New Recruits Make the Grade

East Midlands Demolition continues to expand — recruiting and training six new staff to join the team. The company's commitment to progression and excellence continues despite the after effects of the economic downturn, with its investment in people backed up by a continuous and intensive training programme. EMD has invested in this training programme to ensure that it stays ahead of the pack in terms of efficiency, knowledge and new techniques. The company is no stranger to innovation, of course — having introduced the Pegson impactor to the demolition industry in the area already, East Midlands Demolition is simply carrying on its own tradition of enterprise and forward motion.

Anyone for Golf?

East Midlands Demolition is to demonstrate its commitment to providing a platform for a better future by hosting a charity golf event at the Morley Hayes Golf Club. The event is to raise money for EMD's local charity 2011, the Derby Hospitals Charity. The Derby Hospitals Charity spreads its funding between patient welfare; research; and money for staff training. All proceeds from the day will go towards the creation of a £20,000 Sunshine Deck for the Royal Derby Children's Hospital. The Sunshine Deck will be created on currently unmanaged ground, and is intended to offer a secure outdoor area for the children and their parents.

Summer Charity Ball

Roll up for the event of the season — the East Midland Demolition Summer Charity Ball! The Ball takes place at Derby County Cricket Club on September 17th 2011, and All proceeds from the Ball will be put towards the £20,000 Sunshine Deck being built for the Royal Derby Children's Hospital by the Derby Hospitals Charity. There will be a celebrity after dinner speaker and an auction of original art from local artist Peter Spowage. Peter is a self taught Nottingham based painter whose work can be seen at his gallery on Byard Lane in Nottingham city centre (opposite Cafe Rouge, two doors down from the original Paul Smith gallery). His work uses a variety of media, from the traditional (oils and acrylics) to the natural (wood, stone and natural fibres).

East Midlands Demolition Helps former Colliery Turn Back the Clock

East Midlands Demolition has excelled even its own high standards with an outstanding piece of project management at the site of the former Clipstone Colliery in Nottinghamshire. The company has run an extraordinary demolition and reclamation project on the site structures, both above and below ground — and has managed to salvage an astonishing 96% of turned up materials for reuse, resale and recycling.

East Midlands Demolition Clears the Way for Derbyshire County Cricket Club

East Midlands Demolition has signed a major sponsorship deal with Derbyshire County Cricket Club. The deal includes another exemplary EMD demolition, this time of the old Jockey Quarters at the cricket club's former racecourse ground. East Midlands Demolition has also undertaken to improve the entrance to the ground from Frank Whittle Way. The partnership between EMD and Derbyshire County Cricket Club marks another stage in East Midlands Demolition's drive to forge strong links with local communities and businesses.

Crushers and Screeners from Blue Machinery Continue East Midlands Demolition's Equipment Investment

East Midlands Demolition has added to its fleet of plant machinery, with a pair of TEREX Pegson crushers and two screeners. The new additions will be used across the spectrum of EMD's business, with one taking up residence in the company's joint interest limestone quarry, while the other moves out onto site to help reclaim and recycle more demolition material than ever. The company has developed a unique way of fulfilling demolition contracts in a sustainable and eco friendly fashion, using the materials brought up by demolition either to create suitable future building material (such as foundation or recycled concrete); or to recycle in the normal fashion. EMD becomes the first British company to use crushers to recycle concrete.

First Volvos for East Midlands Demolition

East Midlands Demolition expands its fleet of plant machinery with two new 21 tonne Volvo EC210BLC excavators. The company runs its own self serviced fleet of excavators, demolition machines and loading shovels. East Midlands Demolition operates with a special focus on sustainability, recycling as much material as possible from every job. The company is an expert provider of ‘total&rsquo demolition services, where the site ground is cleaned and prepared for new projects once existing structures have been pulled down. Its future plans include the use of Pegson impactors to provide Types 1 and 6F2 grade recycled concrete rubble.
