Worthy causes, summer sun (we hope!) and a super sporting setting are the key ingredients for this year's East Midlands Demolition Summer Charity Ball. Derby County Cricket Club (www.derbyshireccc.com) is hosting the event, which is to include a guest speaker and a charity auction of artwork from the Peter Spowage gallery. All proceeds from the Ball will be put towards the £20,000 Sunshine Deck being built for the Royal Derby Children's Hospital by the Derby Hospitals Charity.
The Summer Charity Ball opens batting on September 17, at a time to be confirmed. Tickets are available from Wendy Wright at East Midlands Demolition, who can be reached on 0845 838 1410.
Local Nottinghamshire artist Peter Spowage (www.pspowageartgallery.co.uk) has kindly donated some of his work to be auctioned on the evening. Peter is a self taught Nottingham based painter whose work can be seen at his gallery on Byard Lane in Nottingham city centre (opposite Cafe Rouge, two doors down from the original Paul Smith gallery). His work uses a variety of media, from the traditional (oils and acrylics) to the natural (wood, stone and natural fibres). Original pieces will be up for auction on the night.
The East Midlands Demolition Summer Charity Ball forms the keynote event in an ongoing fundraising initiative arranged by the company. You can make your local charity contribution this year a sporting double header by also attending the tee off event: a Golf Day held at Morley Hayes Golf Club, all proceeds from which are also going towards the Royal Derby Children's Hospital Sunshine Deck project.
East Midlands Demolition has selected the Derby Hospitals Charity as its Local Charity 2011, a move that further cements the company's reputation as an organisation committed to building local futures. If that seems to be something of a turnaround for a company normally committed to knocking things down, remember that East Midlands Demolition has pioneered responsible site clearance in the area — a sustainable form of demolition that places emphasis on minimising environmental impact and recycling materials for use in new building. That's a big statement of intent, and one that has so far been carried out with aplomb: thanks to a broad vision for the company's own future, which includes the creation of a brand new purpose built office and depot; a recruitment drive; and a serious investment into more efficient, more environmentally sound site equipment.
East Midlands Demolition's commitment to making big statements continues with its Summer Charity Ball, which is to be addressed by a celebrity speaker whose identity is being kept closely under wraps. Suffice to say that guests will be ably entertained by a speaker appropriate to the event and surroundings.
It'll be the ideal way to end the summer and make a real difference to the lives of local children. Brush off the black tie and come on down to Derby County Cricket Club, to help EMD and the Derby Hospitals Charity maintain a great batting average by hitting that £20,000 target.
