East Midlands Demolition Limited - Clearing the way for the future

East Midlands Demolition Completes a First Project at Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station

It only takes a small step to start a big journey: and East Midlands Demolition looks like it has begun a long and impressive walk after its first successful demolition project at Nottingham's Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station. The company was called in to dismantle a small store building on the imposing Gotham-esque site just outside the city: a project that was completed with the usual care and aplomb.

This is an important contract for East Midlands Demolition, which has made a commitment to expanding notably over the next 10 years. High profile jobs like the store demolition at Ratcliffe on Soar, which require the normal professional approach to a job to be displayed under intense scrutiny, prove that EMD is a worthy holder of the area's demolition crown. Having performed without a hitch, the company is able to add e.on UK to its list of major clients — a nice coup and another suitable partner for a demolition company whose commitment to health and safety is equally matched by its concern for environmental sustainability.

e.on manages the Ratcliffe on Soar Power Plant with a close eye on its environmental impact, and has introduced a series of initiatives to offset any potential effect that the coal fired power plant might have. As one of the most efficient coal fired power plants in Britain, Ratcliffe on Soar is capable of producing enough electricity to serve the daily needs of 2 million people: a process that necessarily has some capacity for impacting the surrounding area. e.on has introduced a flue gas desulphurisation plant, which knocks out roughly 92% of sulphur dioxide from the flue gases before they are released into the atmosphere; it uses oxide of nitrogen emission reduction technology; and it uses high efficiency turbines to reduce carbon dioxide expulsion. In addition the company has planted a large number of native foliage on site, which remains a recognised habitat for three globally threatened species of bird.

Add all this efficiency and greenery to the overall recycling and community involvement initiatives present in the running of the Ratcliffe on Soar Power Plant, and it's little wonder that East Midlands Demolition was chosen to take down the storage building. EMD has long made a practice of incorporating large scale recycling into its work (East Midlands Demolition was the first company in the UK to make use of the Pegson Impactor, a machine that recycles concrete for re use), and has spearheaded its own expansion project with the purchase of £500,000 worth of environmentally friendly equipment. From lead free paint to noise reduction; and from increased fuel efficiency to a greater tonnage per hour shifting capability, East Midlands Demolition is as committed to providing a stable long term platform for growth and development as anyone in the business.
